Embrace Life’s Challenges
Individual therapy is a collaborative process between you and your therapist. Treatment can address specific issues (e.g. anxiety, depressions, addiction, past or current trauma, etc.) or everyday concerns (e.g. relationships and family problems, career issues, etc.). I provide a safe place to explore your life and discover the change you are seeking. My goal is to help you learn how to better live your story through the process of rediscovering a deeper sense of self, developing more authentic relationships, and living an increasingly fulfilling life. Mental Health Integrative Medicine
Treat the Whole Self
Your mind, body, and environment work together and contribute equally to your mental health. The most effective treatments focus on the individual and address the complex factors that contribute to mental health so people can take control of their health and well-being.
Advances in the understanding of the causes of mental illness have important implications for therapeutic uses of complementary and alternative (CAM) therapies in the treatment of depressed mood, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other mental health problems. Recently, innovative new approaches to understanding and treating mental illness have emerged into the mainstream. Integrative mental health care is a rapidly emerging paradigm that combines prescription medications, psychotherapy and a range of evidence-based CAM therapies.
Integrative care is a form of mental health treatment that combines conventional Western medicine with alternative approaches. Integrative care thinks of the body as a holistic system. It looks at mental health conditions as the result of interactions within that system, rather than an isolated disease.
Psychiatry often describes mental health conditions as a “chemical imbalance,” referring to the neurotransmitters responsible for regulating emotions: serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. Pharmaceutical treatment assumes that mental health symptoms come from too many or too few of these neurotransmitters, and the purpose of medication is to produce the correct amount.
However, medication is not the only way to correct a chemical imbalance, and those are not the only neurotransmitters that can contribute to mental health conditions. At TheraTribe, prescribed medications are viewed as only one part of a much larger whole.
Integrative care offers you a path to managing your brain chemistry, and your overall health, without exclusively relying on medication.
You will receive guidance and education on the environmental and lifestyle changes you need to make to control your mental health. This approach can also help you prevent the signs of mental health conditions in the first place instead of reacting to them as they arise.
Does integrative treatment include pharmaceuticals prescribing?
Integrative treatment can include conventional psychiatric medication such as antidepressants and mood stabilizers, which are especially useful in the short term. However, these medications are just one tool for managing the symptoms of mental health conditions and do not increase your overall neurotransmitter levels in the longer term. At TheraTribe, prescriptions are not written; however, collaboration with your prescribing physician can be an integral part of the treatment process and is encouraged as you build your treatment team.
